Alton Gansky did a masterful job of portraying this modern crime-scene investigator who finds himself thrust into a time he know nothing about--and learns how his own tragic life intersects with those who walked with Jesus. Besides holding me captive with his surprising, page-turning story, Gansky taught me things I didn't know. I wish everyone would read this book."

The Story Behind CSJ

About eight months ago an email popped up in my computer. Nothing new there. I get lots of email. This digital missive caught my attention because it came from someone I had lost contact with. Mike Nappa and I had worked together when he was with Barbour and I was doing the Perry Sachs novels. He had moved on and disappeared from my radar. Turns out, he landed with Cook Communications, the company that bought my first publisher. I did several books with them before we parted ways.

Mike had a book idea but didn’t know where to go with it. I read his description and thought it was unique and full of potential. I told him so. He asked me to write it. It’s not every day that an editor calls and says, “I’ve got this idea and I think you’re the man to do it.” So, I gave it some thought. Then I gave it more thought. After that, I thought about it some more. Truth is, I didn’t know how to make it work and told Mike so.

He asked me to write a proposal and some sample chapters.

Sigh. He began to call the genre “apologetic fiction.”

“That’s good,” I said. “I’ve been apologizing for my fiction for years.”

“Not that kind of apologetics, the kind that defends the faith.”

“Oh. I knew that.” It was the only reply I could come up with. Besides, I really did know what he meant, but I never turn down an opportunity to give an editor a bad time.

The goal was to create a compelling story about a man who must face the death and resurrection of Christ days after Jesus rose from the grave. He had to be man attuned to detail and evidence. In short, he needed to be a crime scene cop. The question is: How would an expert in evidence look at the events that happened from the upper room to empty tomb.

CRIME SCENE JERUSALEM is my answer to that.

Mike Nappa is no longer with Cook but the editors who took over the project have shown the same zeal as he did. For that I am thankful.

So, that’s how the book began. You have to read it to find out how it ends.
